Leaders from across the political aisle have been reacting to President Uhuru's dramatic rejection of the parliamentary bill that sought to suspend the implementation of the sixteen per cent VAT.
Garissa Township MP and Leader of the Majority appeared to support the rejection of the bill, saying that Kenyans had an obligation to pay taxes to support the government's development agenda
"I hope the other stakeholders and the transporters in this trade will reciprocate once the House ceases of the matter on Tuesday and Thursday next week. Hopefully, the President will sign into law the new amended VAT of eight per cent. It is very painful because at the same time we have to pay taxes for the development and transformation of our country," Duale said.
President Uhuru proposed an eight per cent tax instead of the sixteen per cent.
The levy triggered a backlash from Kenyans who called for it to be done away with.
Parliament will now have to come up with another bill.
