A meeting by Kikuyu Council of Elders that saw speakers launch scathing attacks against Deputy President William Ruto was reportedly organized by powerful forces at Office of the President together with an equally powerful Principal Secretary, a local daily has learnt.
Sunday Nation has been informed that the meeting, which was held in Nyeri, had the blessings of ant-Ruto elements in high places within the Jubilee government.
The meeting, which was unlikely of any of any organized before, made politics its agenda with a tongue lash on DP Ruto and his agents in Mt Kenya region.
It was organised by the Kikuyu Council of Elders (KCE) and attended by more than 2,000 elders.
Sunday Nation reported that it was privy to details of how anti-Ruto forces bankrolled the grouping with express orders that they hammer Ruto by creating an impression he was sabotaging President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Sources within the KCE revealed that a senior government official based at State House, a powerful Principal Secretary and a wealthy senator from the Mt Kenya region were behind the meeting and picked the tab on all expenses,” the paper reported.
According to a report by the Standard, KCE secretary Peter Munga said Ruto had disrespected his boss.
“The DP has been playing petty politics meant to undermine the President and divide Central Kenya, despite the Head of State telling politicians to stop early campaigns,” said Munga.
