Slightly over a day after mourning the loss of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, ODM leader Raila Odinga has yet again lost another friend across the border.
On Monday, Tanzanian President John Magufuli's sister, Monica Joseph, was pronounced dead.
Government spokesman Gerson Msigwa confirmed the tragic news to the First Family on Monday morning.
“I am sad to inform you (the public) that the sister to President Magufuli, Monica Joseph Magufuli has passed away this morning (yesterday) at Bugando Hospital in Mwanza," he said.
And Raila, a close ally of President Magufuli, took on his Twitter account to mourn with Magufuli family.
"I have learnt with sorrow of the passing of Ms. Monica Joseph Magufuli, sister to H.E President @MagufuliJP My sincere condolences to the family and the people of Tanzania at this time of mourning. We are together in sorrow," he wrote.
Mr. Odinga's closeness with the Tanzanian First Family first came into limelight in 2013 when Magufuli attended his campaigns at Kasarani.
The two world later meet during Fidel Odinga's funeral in 2015, few months before Magufuli won presidency.
And in 2016, Odinga was hosted by the President in his rural home.
