The County Government of Mombasa, through the Department of Lands, Planning and Housing now says all buildings being constructed in the city must be painted Egyptian blue and white colours.
A notice from the department to all Mombasa residents said the move aims to enhance the aesthetic beauty of Mombasa and preservation of our heritage.
"All new constructions starting 1st January 2019 will be required to paint the Egyptian blue and white colours on their buildings."
The move will be a mandatory condition in the awarding of building permits.

In March 2018, the Mombasa County Administration through the Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works CeC Tawfiq Balala, gave out a 14-days notice to owners of buildings in the CDB to comply with the preparation of painting, and 30 days from start of the directive, to complete the painting.
The public notice was issued to residents by the county administration, directing that all buildings be painted with a uniform colour to symbolise the Indian Ocean.
"The department further takes this opportunity to wish you all a joyous festive season and a rewarding 2019," read the notice on December 29.
