Speaker Kahindi declared the Dabaso ward seat vacant, paving way for another by-election in Malindi Constituency, which is represented by Ms Jumwa.

The victory of Emmanuel Changawa was nullified by the High Court after his appeal. He was elected on an ODM ticket.

“The person ceases to be a member of the County assembly from today,” said the speaker.

Addressing journalists outside the county assembly premises, Changawa said that he was confident of being re-elected in the by-election set to be announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

“I am confident that my party ODM will give me a direct ticket having been a loyal life member and I am also confident that I will be re-elected to serve the people of Dabaso ward," he said.

Chief Magistrate Julie Oseko had upheld Changawa's victory before Justice Weldon Korir quashed it. Dickson Karani of ANC was the petitioner.

In October, Jumwa took ODM leader Raila Odinga head-on during the Ganda ward by-election, which was eventually won by Reuben Katana of the Orange party.

The by-election led to the death of one person, a move that saw Jumwa dragged to court over the fatal shooting. She's a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto.

At Dabaso, Jumwa is expected to continue with the onslaught against ODM, as she positions herself to take over from Amason Kingi in 2022.

The second term lawmaker parted ways with Odinga after her expulsion. IEBC is now set to issue the date for the Dabaso polls.
