A Kenyan don by the name named Dr Peter Waweru became the first Kenyan to officiate a match in African Cup of Nations on 1st July, 2019.
The don who teaches at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology -JKUAT, will set a record with the Kenyan Referee Association by being the first ever centre referee from the country to officiate a match overseas.
Peter Waweru officiated the last match of Group D between Namibia and the Ivory Coast after being entrusted with that mandate by the Confederation of African Football.
The don will be assisted by Gilbert Cheruiyot, a Kenyan referee and Souru Phatsoane from Lesotho. Peter has been making great landmarks as football is concerned. This is after he officiated certain games in just concluded CAF Champions League.
Group D has Morocco leading with 6 points followed by Ivory Coast 3, third comes South Africa with 3 points while Namibia comes last with no points and will be seeking their first win the following match.
These are the second rounds for the matches to have teams qualify for the first 16 teams.
Other games for the day were between South Africa will be competing with Morocco, Tanzania and Algeria and the most awaited match by Kenyans between Kenya and Senegal. The Kenyan match will be starting at 10 pm.
