The two were shot dead in different parts though within the same sub-county.

Confirming the incident, Garissa county commissioner Mr Joshua Chepchieng said security has been beefed up following the unfortunate incident that he cited as a case of 'renewed clan rivalry.'

"It is very unfortunate that two people were killed by suspected Borana bandits in Modogashe sub-county. We suspect it is a case of renewed clan rivalry," stated the county boss.

Local leaders have also condemned the incident, calling on the government to post more security officers to the area that has been battling inter-clan clashes.

Among the several political leaders who visited the region include the Lagdera MP Mohamed Hire.

"It is really saddening. When such ugly criminal incidents happen, I don’t even know what to tell my constituents, who believe and know that there is a functional government which should protect them at all times,” Mohamed Hire said.

The incident happens barely hours after several leaders from Garissa county led by Ali Korane threatened to fully arm locals, accusing the national government of doing very little to protect them from banditry and Al-Shabaab attacks.
