Mainye, who was elected as the Municipality Board Chair on Monday last week, resigned a day later, further causing confusion in the county government.

And Mr Peter Bita, the preference of Governor John Nyagarama, is reportedly said to have assumed the position, which he had earlier lost to the veteran priest.

"Mr Peter Bita has taken over. They are silent on the matter but the truth is, board members were just told to rubber stamp his name despite their protest.

"He is now the first municipality board chair and the status quo reigns. This is the sad reality on how the governor is micromanaging the county government," a source said in confidence.

In an interview, Father Chrisantos Mainye said he had to leave because his conscious could not withstand toxic politics surrounding the entire exercise.

He said: "My exit was voluntary. I didn't want to engage in politics which seems to surround the entire process. It was better for me to leave and there are no regrets at all."

Mr Jackson Mogusu was appointed the first Municipality Manager despite resistance from a section of Governor John Nyagarama's advisor who are reportedly keen to have him kicked out.
