Experts have differed with National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich following his latest report on economic growth.
This is after he on Thursday released results of an economic survey indicating a 6.3 percent GDP growth in the year 2018.
However, this is being doubted by different experts, as well as different reputable economic institutions, some of which are of the opinion that the information cannot be trusted.
Others are thinking that the percentage was made up to serve the interest of the government.
A number of Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) experts have poked holes into the same, with Samuel Nyandemo who is an Economics Lecturer at the University of Nairobi claiming that the right number is 5.4 per cent.
“I don’t think so (economy growing by 6.3 per cent). It should be 5.4 per cent. Those are Rotich's figures,” he was quoted by the Standard.
The CS spoke when he unveiled the Economic Survey 2019 in Nairobi.
In his speech, Rotich added that the government is a loss on how to share the wealth with her citizens, adding that the said growth would have very little improvement in the financial status of Kenyans.
He admitted that it will have a very little effect on the poverty levels in the country and the lives of ordinary Kenyans.
"There is a need to redistribute this wealth and jobs by investing in health and education,” he added.
