President Uhuru Kenyatta could struggle in making major government decisions following the ongoing probe affecting a section of his cabinet, reports the Sunday Nation.
At Kisii on Wednesday, Uhuru vowed to have public servants implicates in graft sacked, a move that was backed by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“If Matiang'i steals, will he share the matoke (boiled bananas) with you? Or if I steal, will I share the loot with my people of Ichaweri? Corrupt individuals should not be identified by their communities. Let everyone carry their own cross,” he said.
On his part, Raila said: "The fight against corruption should be collective. As the government uses agencies, let's be also good citizens and report those involved."
DCI and EACC have confirmed that Tourism CS Najib Balala is under probe for allegedly influencing a multimillion tender that was awarded to an American firm recently.
Also being haunted is Treasury CS Henry Rotich, who is being probed by Senate for allegedly receiving kickbacks from contractors doing major dams across the country, with sources claiming that he has been receiving bribes outside the country.
Also in the mix are Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and his Agricultural counterpart Mwangi Kiunjuri who were directly implicated by Senate ad hoc Committee that was investigating maize scandal by the virtue of sitting in inter-ministerial committee on food security.
President Kenyatta has often warned officials engaging in graft but he's yet to sack any senior official, further subjecting him to online ridicule.
