Embattled former Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero has been slapped with Sh20 million bond or an alternative Sh8 million cash bail after spending five nights in police custody over graft allegations.
Kidero will also be required to deposit his passport in court.
Bond and bail terms for other suspects charged alongside Kidero varied basing on the number of charges they faced.
Milimani Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti freed the former Governor and others saying the prosecution failed to provide compelling reasons to deny him bail.
On Monday, Kidero and 13 other accussed persons pleaded not guilty to charges of allegedly defrauding the Nairobi County government of Sh68 Million.
The former governor also pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit an economic crime of corruption, abuse of office, money laundering, dealing with suspect property and unlawful acquisition of public property.
Kidero and others is alleged to have made illegal payments of Sh68 Million to a law firm of M/S Wachira Mwangi and Company Advocates.
The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had opposed Kidero's application for bail, saying the charges against him are serious and he could interfere with witnesses if he is released on bail.
The DPP also told court that Kidero and others could abscond trial of given bail.
Kidero's lawyers led Senior Counsel James Orengo, however, rubbished the DPP's move to oppose bail, saying that he has no compelling reasons to object to the suspects release.
The former Governor and other suspects spend the weekend in police custody before their presentation in court on Monday.
