A man in his 60s is nursing serious burn injuries in Marani hospital, Kisii County after his daughter-in-law burnt him with hot cooking oil.
The man was burnt on Wednesday evening in Nyabworoba village, Marani, Kisii County.
Confirming the incident area assistant chief George Osinde said the trouble started when the victim Alloys Kerage stormed the woman's house and demanded to be given money which his son who works in Nairobi sent for him to be given.
"Kerage arrived home drunk and asked Sarah Kerubo to give him money. Kerubo told him to wait until she completes cooking in vain prompting to the attack," said Osinde.
Osinde said Kerage grabbed the woman's hand saying he will set her house on fire if she couldn't give him money.
"Kerubo was angered by Kerage's move to grab her hands while she was cooking. She picked a sufuria which contained hot cooking fat and sprinkled on her and fled from the house," he added.
The chief said neighbors responded to the man's screams and rushed him to hospital.
"The victim sustained burn injuries on his thighs, left hand. We thank God he is responding well to medication," said Osinde.
He warned men against harassing women to avert unnecessary attacks.
