The family of a boy from Marsabit County whose right hand was amputated after a neighbor dipped his hands in hot water is demanding for justice.
Ms Dowate Sambene, the boy’s mother wants justice and action taken against the neighbor who was freed from police custody.
Ms Sambene asked the government to intervene in the matter adding that the family is suffering while their son is still in hospital and his alleged attacker is walking free.
She asked the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji to take the matter seriously and have the 40-year-old man arrested.
Speaking on Thursday to nation.co.ke, the mother said that they can’t afford the hospital bill adding that the bill keeps rising.
“We want the government to help arrest our son’s attacker. We are very stressed because we are helpless and our son has now been rendered helpless in hospital. We can’t afford his hospital bill, which keeps rising, or even get justice for him,” said Ms Sambane.
The 11-year-old boy lost his right hand after he was punished by a neighbor for stealing food while he was grazing the family’s sheep and goats on Sunday.
The minor found maize flour in the neighbor’s manyatta and prepared ugali but as he was about to eat the man arrived home and was infuriated to find the boy had cooked ugali using his flour.
As punishment, the angry neighbor tied the boy with a rope before immersing his hands inside the boiling water and used a metal rod to burn the boy on various parts of his body leaving him with severe burns in the hands, legs, and back.
