Succession politics rocked President Uhuru Kenyatta's closed-door meeting with Luo leaders on Thursday night at State House, Kisumu, it has emerged.
With the President keenly taking notes with his host Raila Odinga, Siaya Senator James Orengo ignited the succession debate where he urged Uhuru to back Raila in 2022.
"We would be happy if your excellency considers offering your support for Mr Odinga to continue with your March 9 peace deal of uniting the country and enhancing good governance," Mr Orengo reportedly told the President.
Also featuring in the discussion was compensation of post election victims, who the president reportedly agreed to be cleared during this financial year as good gesture to handshake.
Sugar industry predicaments also featured prominently with elected leaders from Luo Nyanza urging the president to revive industries in the region which have been on their knees for years now.
Besides the three, President Uhuru was also briefed about hyacinth debacles in Lake Victoria and poor road networks which he agreed to have them fixed expeditiously in coming months.
On succession, the President is said to have insisted that he has no problem with Raila Odinga taking over from him but insisted that the leadership must first work closely with him to achieve development in the region.

Before the meeting, local MCAs and two Gusii governors, James Ongwae and John Nyagarama, were temporarily asked to leave to allow senior Luo leaders interact with the president.
