Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i on Monday held a closed-door meeting in his new capacity with Luo Nyanza leaders allied to ODM leader Raila Odinga at his offices in Nairobi.
Matiang'i who was acting in line with the president's directive said the Head of State had directed him to follow up on the development projects he had initiated in Nyanza, as reported by the Standard.
Led by the ODM parliamentary minority leader John Mbadi, Migori Senator Ochilo Ayacko and Homabay County Women Member to the National Assembly Gladys Wanga, the legislators in the presence of the no-nonsense CS discussed ways of fast-tracking some of the development projects initiated by the president in his tour to the Nyanza region.
Other Luo Nyanza leaders present were Seme lawmaker James Nyikal, Samuel Atandi (Alego Usonga), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare), and Rose Nyamunga.
The meeting was also attended by Water CS Simon Chelugui, Transport CS James Macharia, Agriculture Mwangi Kiunjuri, Finance CAS Nelson Gachuihie and Technical and Vocational Training PS Kevit Desai.
This comes only a month after Uhuru's maiden tour to Nyanza, one that saw him launch a number of projects.
In his visit to Kisumu and Siaya Counties on December 13 and 14 respectively, Uhuru launched among others, construction of the Ahero Interchange in Kisumu.
The government in collaboration with other stakeholders has also since launched a campaign to eradicate the water hyacinth choking the Lake Victoria that touches on all the 4 counties of Luo Nyanza.
The former Education CS was on Tuesday last week appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to be chair the committee on implementation of government development programmes amidst mixed reactions on what the new position exactly means as the deputy president is perceived to be playing the same role.
