Garissa Women Representative Anab Subow has vowed to champion girl child education in the county.
Speaking at Saka Secondary School where she launched Sh100 Million bursary on Tuesday, Subow said that some girls are still being denied right to education.
She observed that retrogressive cultural practices like early marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) are hindering girl child education and empowerment.
The lawmaker claimed that some clans are silently perpetuating early marriages and denying their girls education.
"It is unfortunate that some people are denying girls their right to education and we are going to expose them," she stated.
Subow indicated that women have equal rights to education as men.
The MP asked girls not to suffer in silence as their right to education is infringed upon.
Subow stated that a huge chunk of the bursary fund will sponsor bright but needy students.
The MP also said the bursary will fund students joining technical colleges.
She vowed to use education to fight poverty and marginalisation.
