Governor Anyang' Nyong'o on Monday afternoon met members of the newly formed Kisumu County City Board after seeing off former United States President Barrack Obama.

The 11 members of the board were appointed after their names were approved by the Kisumu County Assembly. 

“You should remain focused and do all within your powers to make Kisumu greater during your term in office, “Governor Nyong’o told the board’s members during the meeting.

Members of the Kisumu City board are: Lawrence Gumbe, former Kisumu Mayor Sam Okello, Kennedy Akoko Obware, Charles Owoko, Rose Olende, Sagar Shah, Sheilla Okal, Elijah Adul, former nominated MCA Farida Salim, Peris Ochola and John Ombija.

Also present during the meeting were Kisumu County Secretary Dr. Olang'o Onudi and City manager Doris Ombara.The two leaders expressed their joy for finally having the board in place.

The board members were nominated by Governor Nyong’o last month, before being vetted by the Kisumu County appointments committee under Speaker Onyango Oloo.

During vetting, the nominees faced a range of questions among them how to help fight corruption in Kisumu County.

Most of the nominees failed to state the total number of wards in Kisumu County.

The Lakeside county has 7 constituencies and 35 wards. The board will be charged with a range of responsibilities, which include setting development agenda in the city.
