On Nov 22, 2016, there were allegations that the governor had paid 31 MCAs to fly out to Tanzania as part of the plan to counter the impeachment motion against him.

The then assembly's Deputy Speaker Nathaniel Nganga claimed that the MCAs spent Sh20 million to deviate the plans for impeaching the county boss.

He alleged that each of the MCAs was paid Sh500, 000 as sustenance and another Sh150, 000 to cover the flight costs.

Nganga claimed that each of the MCAs allegedly walked home with Sh650, 000.

The motion to send Mutua home flopped after the house failed to attain the quorum required to impeach him.

While responding to the allegations, Mutua termed them as false and ill-intended.

He said his political nemesis was using all means to ensure that he does not succeed in his capacity as the county boss.

Mutua has continued to differ with MCAs over a number of issues.

The MCAs have severally accused the governor of misusing his office.

Mutua, on his part, has maintained that the fights are politically instigated due to his bad blood with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
