Deputy President William Ruto is a man under siege politically.
It doesn’t need a brainer to tell that Ruto has slim chances of ever occupying the county’s top seat.In Kenya’s politics, players have perfected the game of use and dump.
The Mt Kenya region, who Ruto chose to work with since 2013, are, unfortunately, notoriously known for this game.
Here political factions that have formed to ensure the DP returns to Sugoi come 2022.
1. Raila Odinga camp
In Raila’s allies, no man has caused them more pain than one Dr William Samoei Kipchirchir Ruto.
The camp sees Ruto as the man who denied their candidate the top price in 2013 and 2017.
When Ruto was in Raila’s camp in 2007, power almost went into the ODM leader’s hands.
For the team, it is a moment for sweet revenge. ODM party deputy leader Hassan Joho has been heard declaring publicly that they were directed to embrace the Handshake between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta but fight Ruto.
2. Gideon Moi camp
How Ruto ousted retired President Daniel Moi as the King of Kalenjin politics is still a puzzle to the Moi’s to this day.
The pain of losing to the man from Sugoi is too much for the family to forgive him.
As such, the younger Moi is trying to revenge the political loss of his father.
3. Kitaeleweka camp
This group comprises of another version of Mt Kenya mafia – a clique of politicians who think anyone who wants to become president must kneel before them.
The group, which works behind the scenes, has recruited the likes of Maina Kamanda and Ngunjiri Wambugu to lead from the front.
With the three camps, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for Ruto to become president.
