The 2022 political succession debate continues to take shape as politicians across the divide put in place strategies to win seats in the much awaited general election.
With three years left to the 2022 polls, the country has already been plugged into political anxiety.
The Coast region has not been left behind in the ongoing succession debate.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who is considered the Coast kingpin is eyeing to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
The region has for decades voted for the opposition but the situation is likely to change following the realignments being witnessed in the political scene.
A section of politicians who lost in the 2017 polls will also be seeking to try out their luck in the upcoming polls.
Here are some of the Coast politicians who are likely to make a comeback in 2022.
1. Hassan Omar
The former Mombasa Senator has remained silent after losing in his bid to unseat Governor Joho in the 2017 general election.
After losing in the gubernatorial race, Omar quit Wiper Party and declared support for Jubilee Party.
The former senator is likely to be strategising on how to succeed Governor Joho in 2022.
2. Zainab Chidzuga
She is among the veteran female politicians who hail from the Coast region.
A former ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga, Chidzuga lost her Kwale Woman Representative seat in the 2017 polls.
Chidzuga who is now an ardent supporter of the Jubilee government is likely to make a political comeback in 2022.
3. Gideon Mung'aro
The former Kilifi North MP lost his Kilifi gubernatorial bid in the 2017 general election.
Mung'aro who ditched the Raila Odinga-led Orange party and joined Jubilee in the run-up to the 2017 polls is currently the Lands Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS).
Mung'aro is likely to make a second attempt at the Kilifi gubernatorial race in the 2022 polls.
4. Issa Timamy
He lost re-election as Lamu governor in the 2017 general election.
The Wiper politician lost to Fahim Twaha of Jubilee Party.
Timamy is said to be setting the ground for his come back in 2022.
5. Shakilla Abdalla
The Wiper Party deputy leader lost the Lamu woman representative seat in the 2017 general election.
Shakilla is likely to make a comeback in the forthcoming 2022 polls.
