In the event attended by Deputy President William Ruto, Obado had seemingly gotten a hint of an impending arrest before taking to the washrooms in the company of his guards.

By this time, Obado reportedly called a taxi to the basement in which he planned to take off unnoticed by plain clothe officers who had besieged him in the meeting by that time on Wednesday.https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2001302715/how-obado-tried-to-escape-police-dragnet.

With five officers ready to pounce on him after the meeting over illegal possession of firearms, it took a keen look by one of them to notice that he had left.

Thereafter, the hawk-eyed officers from the DCI swiftly followed him to the basement and ordered the taxi to stop. Mr Obado, who is also facing murder charges, was ordered out of the vehicle.

Apparently, the DP, his new found friend, was still addressing the Development Partnership Forum in which several other governors had attended by the time Obado was trying to escape.

The second term Migori boss was driven to Nairobi Area Police where he declined to record a statement until his lawyer Cliff Ombeta came. He was then taken off from Special Crimes Prevention Unit to DCI headquarters where he recorded a statement.

According to him, five guns recovered from his Nairobi home belong to AP manning the compound while one of the pistols recovered in Migori belongs to his estranged aide Caspal Obiero.

Further, he said, another pistol belongs to his personal guard while the controversial one was picked from a thug who had raised his home.

DCI George Kinoti said that all the guns and the 100 rounds of ammunition will undergo ballistic tests to ascertain whether they have been used in committing a crime.
