After a day of nightmare in the city, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has temporarily lifted ban on PSVs making entry to the crowded CBD.

In a press statement, Sonko, who faced online ridicule for the better part of Monday, said he regrets enforcing the plan without clear strategy.

“I have noted with deep concern the plight of city residents as a result of the ban, and hereby announce that the full implementation of this directive has been suspended with immediate effect,” Sonko said in a statement on Tuesday.

Commuters were forced to walk long distances after City Hall blocked Matatu entry to the CBD and for sometime, the entire town seemed chaotic.

But Sonko now says he will sit down with stake holders and look for better ways of implementing the directive.

"We enforced it abruptly and I think we shall look for better ways. I am suspending this to allow consultation with stakeholders," he said.

Nairobi Senator Johnston Sakaja had moved to court to challenge the decision, a move which Sonko had earlier rubbished as populist move.
