Angry locals of Bokoma village, Omwari in Bonchari, Kisii County have expelled a 60-year-old widowed woman from the village accusing her of being a witch and 'rearing a hyena'.
Residents claimed that the suspect Janet Nyarangi has been rearing the animal which she uses to carry out witchcraft.
"Nyarangi has refused to surrender her life to God. We stormed her house, kicked her out and warned her against returning back to this village," said Geoffrey Ombaso.
Mr Ombaso said Nyarangi after locals threatened to lynch her revealed that she has been rearing the hyena but, failed to reveal where she is hiding the hyena.
"All her children abandoned her because she is a witch. She will only be allowed back into the village if she surrenders her witchcraft to Suneka catholic parish," he noted.
Area chief Edward Moenda said it was shocking for the woman to accept that she was rearing the hyena.
"The animal has been scaring children going to school early in the morning. Now that she was expelled from the village, children will have peace. Let her go away with her hyena," he noted while warning residents against practising witchcraft.
