This indicates an additional 154 cases from the previous 2,028 reported cases in 2017.

Do not forget that there are more cases that have not been recorded.

The question that most people are grappling with is why do we have such a trend?

It is hard to explain why but here are some reasons why domestic violence is turning into a thorny issue in Kenya.

1. Unfaithfulness

In most relationships and marriages fidelity is rare. Reports indicate that a spouse might end up killing their lovers following the realization that they have cheated on them.

The violence emanates from the hunger caused by cheating.

2. Women empowerment and poor communication

Recently, men’s ego has been hurt by women empowerment and poor communication.

This makes men feel inferior. Due to this men are forced to fight for their rightful position. A lot of focus is given to empowerment of girl child and as a result, boy child is forgotten. Effective communication is essential in avoiding misunderstandings.

3. Lack of advice from parents

In the past, parents used to advise their children on the right person to marry. Nowadays, parents are occupied by daily struggles to make ends meet and have no time to mould their children.

4. Pressure

Some women have the tendency of comparing their husbands with others. These women rarely appreciate the good things done by their spouses. This demoralizes men leading to the eruption of fights in the family.

5. The high cost of living

Many relationships and marriages are facing pressure in efforts to achieve financial stability. As a result, partners end up quarrelling and fighting because of the financial strain.

6. Drug Abuse

A positive correlation between alcoholism and domestic violence has been provided by reports like the studies conducted by Fida. Cases of men abusing their spouses when drunk are rising.

7. The decrease in the fear of God

Nowadays, some people do not believe in God (Biblical teachings) and the fear that God as well as the fact that you should protect the other person, is missing in some individuals. The end product is the erosion of moral values.
