Two people have lost their lives in an accident along Nairobi-Mombasa road at Athi River in Machakos County.
The duo died on the spot after the vehicles they were traveling in engaged in an accident near Mombasa Cement company few meters from the Nairobi-Namanga road interchange on Monday night.
Athi River Police boss Sharma Wario said the accident occurred at around 11.00 pm.
Wario said the two vehicles were headed towards Mombasa direction and on reaching the scene of the accident, the Tiida driver rammed into the Mitsubishi FH from behind.
Due to the impact of the accident, the unidentified driver of the saloon car and a female passenger died on the spot.
"The two vehicles were heading in the same direction when the driver of the Tiida car rammed into the Mitsubishi on reaching the scene of the accident," Wario said.
The bodies of those who succumbed were moved to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary awaiting post-morterm and identification.
The wreckage of the two vehicles was towed to Athi River police station for inspection.
This comes just hours after another accident along the same road that claimed five lives and injured nine.
Wario has told motorists to be vigilant on road and adhere to traffic rules to avert accidents.
