A man accused of killing his pregnant wife, will cool his heels in jail for 20 years after being found guilty by a Homa Bay Court.

Geoffrey Otieno Olero was on Tuesday handed the sentence by Lady Justice Helen Omondi.

Despite pleading not guilty to the charge of killing his wife, the judge noted that evidence brought before the court directly linked the accused to the murder of his wife, who was by then seven months pregnant.

The court heard that the accused committed the offence on January 18, 2018 at their home in Rachuonyo following a domestic misunderstanding with his late wife.

A postmortem report presented in court indicated that the late Linda Achieng had multiple bruises on her upper and lower limbs, injuries on the uterus and on the back of her head.

The accused has 14 days to lodge an appeal.The ruling came as cases of domestic violence leading to deaths and injuries continue to be reported in various parts of the Country.

On Wednesday, a Makueni court sentenced David Nzomo, a man caught on video assaulting his wife to 10 years in prison and two years on probation.

Nzomo was sentenced after pleading guilty to the charge of assaulting his wife Winfred Mwende. 

He was arrested on the 2nd of this month.
