Hillary Mutyambai has taken the oath of office as the new Inspector General (IG) of police.

In his acceptance speech, Mutyambai thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving a chance to lead the police service following the exit of Joseph Boinett. 

He promised to serve the people of Kenya without any form of fear or favor during his tenure. 

He said that he is aware of the challenges in the security sector but promised to do his best before he leaves office.

“As I assume office as the new IG, I am conversant with the security threats our country still faces, especially terrorism, organized crime, corruption, cattle rustling among others.Multi-agency approach still remains the best way to tackle these challenges,” he said.

He also pledged to oversee the construction of new police stations across the nation as well as the renovation of the existent ones for better service delivery.

"We will endeavor to build new police stations and renovate the old ones to meet the policing standards and improve the working conditions of our officers," he added.

Chief Justice David Maraga presided over the ceremony as Chief Registrar of Judiciary, Ms Anne Amadi administered the oath of office.

The new IG is expected to transform the department following his appointment.
