Dr Matiang'i cancelled a trip to Nyamira scheduled on May 31st this year which coincided with that of Deputy President William Ruto, who was also visiting some areas in the county.

It was alleged that Matiang'i cancelled the trip since MPs were planning to attend only Ruto's function. He was set to open new blocks in Keroka Police.

On Friday, Matiang'i arrived at county headquarters where he was received by County Commissioner Amos Mariba, County Executives Douglas Bosire and Gladys Momanyi.

Speaker Moffat Teya also led a troop of MCAs to usher him in. The powerful minister is currently in a meeting with Governor John Nyagarama at the latter's office.

After the meeting, the team is expected to head to Gesiaga in West Mugirango where they will be fundraising. Senator Okong'o Mogeni is the host.

His visit comes amid ongoing local politics in which leaders are divided over who to support between him and deputy president William Ruto.

A number of MPs are supporting Dr Ruto while county leaders Nyagarama, Mogeni, Teya and a host of MCAs believe Matiang'i is ripe to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
