A section of the ruling Jubilee Party members from both President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto 's side have been locked in a war of words lately regarding Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
This was kicked off when Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe said that Mt Kenya has no MoU that it will back Ruto in 2022 for supporting Uhuru in 2013 and 2017.
This is despite earlier remarks by Uhuru that he would back his deputy in 2022.
However, emerging details indicate that there was no written agreement on the same.
According to Pokot South lawmaker and Ruto's ally David Pkosing the MoU was instead an unwritten covenant only carried in the hearts of the electorate.
Contrary to party Secretary General Raphael Tuju's remarks on Sunday that Ruto is not the automatic candidate of the party come 2022, Pkosing argues that he is, according to the deal.
"Everyone knows the NDC will have the last say on who will be their candidate. The party constitution is clear on how the flag-bearer will be picked. But the unwritten MoU which is in the hearts and minds of Jubilee supporters states Ruto will be the automatic candidate and that is an indisputable fact,” he told the Standard.
Pkosing was part of the steering committee that brokered the merger between Ruto's United Republican Party (URP) and Uhuru's The National Alliance (TNA) into the Jubilee front.
