The race for political seats in the much awaited 2022 general election continues to rage on as politicians the divide align and put in place strategies for the seats they plan to contest.
Mt Kenya is the focus of the 2022 succession politics as president Uhuru Kenyatta serves his final term in office.
President Kenyatta is expected to endorse his Deputy William Ruto even as a section of Mt Kenya politicians argue that it is not a must for Uhuru to endorse Ruto’s presidential bid.
As the succession debate take center stage, here are Mt Kenya MPs who are likely to bid and win governor seats in the much awaited 2022 election.
1. Kimani Ichung’wa
The Kikuyu Town MP is a political force to reckon with in Mt Kenya politics.
The second term MP is among vocal Kiambu politicians and is also a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto.
Ichung’wa who chairs the National Assembly Budget Committee is likely to bid for Kiambu governor seat in 2022 polls.
There are also claims that Ichung’wa could be DP Ruto’s presidential running mate should Mt Kenya agree to back his (Ruto) 2022 presidential bid.
2. Ngunjiri Wambugu
The Nyeri Town MP is serving his first term in office.
Wambugu is among Mt Kenya MPs associated to the ‘Kitaeleweka’ movement.
He is among lawmakers against DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid and has been quoted saying that it will not be a must for Mt Kenya to support him in 2022.
The MP's political influence is quickly rising and is among MPs to watch in 2022 election.
3. Sabina Chege
The Murang’a women representative is serving her second term in office.
Chege is also among Mt Kenya MPs rallying behind DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
The MP’s rising influence could see her contest for the governor seat in the coming election.
4. Ndindi Nyoro
He is among Mt Kenya MPs supporting DP Ruto’s 2022 bid.
Nyoro recently said that he is crafting a Bill to trim powers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to probe and prosecute graft cases.
The Kiharu MPs’ rising political influence could see him contest for a higher position like governor seat in 2022.
5. Alice Wahome
Wahome is serving her second term in office and is among vocal female Mt Kenya politicians. The Kandara MP is likely to contest the Nyeri governor seat in 2022 polls.
It is a matter of wait and see if the above politicians will indeed contest the gubernatorial election in 2022 general election and win.
