Residents of Mochengo village in Keera, Kisii County, are mourning the death of a 13-year-old boy who died mysteriously on Wednesday after killing a snake.
Joshua Masese met his death immediately he killed a snake which sneaked into their house. This is according to his mother, Becky Kerubo.
"My son picked a wooden block which he used to kill the snake. He came out of the house and informed me that he had killed the snake in the sitting room," said Kerubo.
Kerubo said her son immediately he was done talking about the snake's death, he collapsed.
"He fell on the ground and complained of a headache. I alerted neighbours who helped me to rush him to a local hospital but, he died on the way," she stated.
On Thursday, area assistant chief Edward Nyakoyo confirmed the incident and protested increased witchcraft in the area.
"Masese's death is shocking because he was not even sick. Witchcraft must end in Mochengo," said the chief.
He appealed to locals practising witchcraft to stop adding that Masese might have killed a snake belonging to a witch doctor.
The administrator said the deceased body was moved to RAM hospital morgue in Kisii.
