A suspect of sexual defilement against children at Martyrs of Uganda School in Machakos has been arrested.
The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KNHCR) affirmed on Monday that the cook, blamed for molesting children in the school is in police custody.
"We have gotten reports that the culprit blamed for sexual maltreatment against understudies at Martyrs of Uganda School in Machakos has been captured by police," expressed KNHCR in a tweet.
“Next step must be immediate and speedy prosecution in the quest for justice for the abuse victims,” the commission said.
The arrest comes days after activist Boniface Mwangi whistleblew the issue to the public.
It is accounted for that in February, a child at the school, reported to the administration that he had been sexually molested by the school's cook, one Katuku Mutuku.
He was immediately taken to a clinic where the specialists affirmed that for sure the child was defiled.
Upon questioning, the victim revealed that a portion of the orphans in the school narrated to each other about being molested.
The matter was reported to the police and investigations begun.
A few weeks later, the victim's mother raised concern with the slow pace of investigations which is when she decided to raise the matter with KNHCR who even visited the Catholic-sponsored school.
From the visit, it emerged that eight children had been molested by the suspect. KHRC documented the case under OB 41 of 15/02/2019 at the Machakos Police Station.
The school was later shut down and a manhunt for the suspect launched.
