Irungu, alias Jowie, is being held as the main suspect in the callous murder of the businesswoman at her Nairobi apartment.

According to a family friend of the Irungu's in Nakuru, the case has left his family 'stigmatised'.

"Many people here have changed their view of the family. His mother is hard hit as people view them differently. They are going through a hell moment," the neighbour said.

As a result of the highly publicised case, Jowie's parents have even stopped mingling in what the neighbour said is life taking 'a new twist'.

"They no longer even attend church. They have also stigmatised themselves as they do not welcome visitors to their home," another neighbour at their Lanet home said.

Sources said the family had believed that their son was shot by thugs but his lover's affidavit that leaked to the media has left them heartbroken.

"When they visited him at Kijabe, they believed his story. The mother cannot believe the son she raised killed someone, but Jacque's reports as seen in the media has left them heartbroken"
