Deputy President William Ruto has been hitting headlines for days following the alleged loss of Ksh.21 billion in the Arror & Kimwarer dams project in Elgeyo Marakwet. On Thursday, Ruto closed the 6th Devolution conference in Kirinyaga county where insisted that he was clean.
The second in command left the crowd in stitches when he stood up and comically responded to African Union High Representative on Infrastructure Development Raila Amolo Odinga's concern on why he knows the exact figures in the dams scandal.
Ruto, who is considered one of the front-runners in the race for power in 2022, said that he appreciates the question Raila asked but insisted that he can account for every coin.
“Yesterday the former PM asked legitimate questions about the dams and what my interest is in the dams and why I know all the figures in these dams. It a legitimate and important question,” said Ruto causing laughter.
He also said that he has a major interest in the project because it is one of the key areas in the Jubilee government. He also said that his experience as a herds boy at a tender age taught him many things in life including accountability. The second in command insisted that the ODM side should stop politicizing the war against graft.
