Following a short illness, Onchwari died in a US hospital at the state of Minnesota on Monday with details about his death only to be released five days later.

In a short Facebook post, Onchwari, credited for his philanthropic activities across Gusii, insisted that God's time is the best and that he should not be questioned forever.

"A man can plan his ways but it is God who establishes his steps. Remember God has his unique ways of walking you through those steps until you reach your destination inn whatever you persue in life," he wrote on Facebook.

His business partner Peter Raini, said Onchwari fell ill on Sunday and was rushed to the hospital only to succumb hours later.

He lauded his business approach, adding that he had inspired many Kisii people living in the US to start businesses with some working in his various firms.

"We have lost a very important man who always wanted to make our lives better. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately died before many tests were done by doctors," he said.

Mr Onchwari moved to the US in 1988 and is said to have a dual citizenship. It is not clear whether he will be buried in Nyamira or if the family may decide to cremate his body.
