On July 11, 2016, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau found himself on the wrong side of the law.
This is after he was arrested over the torching of Syokimau AP camp at his constituency in Machakos County.
The legislator was accused of leading a group of bodaboda riders who allegedly set the camp on fire, protesting the killing of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri.
Makau was nabbed after he presented himself to the DCI headquarters on Kiambu road.
Police claimed that the Wiper MP incited a group of bodaboda operators to torch the AP camp.
The protesters are said to have torched a container at the camp where deceased lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and taxi driver Joseph Muiruri were reportedly held before their bodies were found in River Athi, Ol-Donyo Sabuk.
The container had allegedly been cordoned off as a crime scene in the investigations into the mysterious killings before it was burnt down.
The human rights lawyer together with the other two victims were said to have been kidnapped on Mombasa Road after leaving a court session at Mavoko law courts.
The three were said to have been tortured before being killed by a number of police officers, who exceed the initial three reported to be the main suspects.
Five people among them four policemen were later charged with the trio's murder.
