African Union Special Envoy for Infrastructure Development Raila Odinga has said that plans to revive the fallen Kisumu port are ongoing.
The veteran politician on Wednesday met a delegation of officials working towards the revival at his Capitol Hill Square office in Nairobi.
The group of officials drawn from both the country and neighbouring Uganda briefed Raila on the progress of the ongoing plans.
"Back to work at Capitol Hill Square, I received a delegation of officials from Kenya and Uganda who are working towards the revival of the port of Kisumu.
They briefed me on their roadmap towards this critical project," he tweeted, Wednesday.
The revival attempts, however, comes at a time when the shores of Lake Victoria that don the port are yet to recover from the water hyacinth menace.
The floating plant currently covers hundreds of hectares of the lake.
Consequently, fishermen and transporters have lamented that the same has led to a decline in fishing activities which earned them a living.
Raila, also the leader of opposition in the county was appointed to the continental slot in October.
However, he has remained reluctant to exit the political scene, maintaining that he will stay to serve in his new role from the country.
