President Uhuru Kenyatta has broken his silence on the fight against corruption in the country, days after the arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
While speaking at the St.Francis of Assis Parish Church, in Ruiru on Sunday, the President said that the war on corruption will not spare anyone even as he asked leaders not to politicize the fight on graft.
" Please let's not politicize the war on corruption. When an individual steals public resources, he doesn't do it on behalf of his family or community. Therefore, anyone who is implicated, should carry their own cross," said President Kenyatta.
The President who asked Kenyans to support the war on graft said that government institutions mandated to deal with such cases should be supported and be allowed to work independently.
The Head of State's statement came just two days after the dramatic arrest of Sonko in Voi, shortly after the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji issued a warrant of arrest against the embattled County chief.
Sonko, who has has been detained at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters police cells, is set to be arraigned in court on Monday alongside several others to answer to graft charges against them.
