Clinical nutritionist Stella Kimani insists that some packed foodstuff in the supermarkets contain preservatives which, when ingested over time, form cancer cells in the body.

While appearing for an interview at Classic 105 on Wednesday, Kimani stated that the risk goes higher without a proper mechanism by the manufacturer and the government on how such foods should be stored.

“Most of the preservatives might form carcinogens inside the body and develop cancerous cells after some time, so I would suggest that manufactures plus the government must collaborate to ensure that what Kenyans buy on the shelves is sufficient for their nutrition, she noted.

Kimani, the proprietor of Stellar Afya added that there is a risk of cancerous cells prevailing in human bodies if proper health measures are not taken in terms of food storage.

“Most of the foods for example milk, juice, meat and even fruits can be very much nutritional if stored well. You don’t need to use dangerous chemicals in the name of preserving," she added.

She pointed out that the best method of storing milk is boiling under extremely high temperatures while juice should be blended to remain highly nutritional.
