At the height of the current joblessness and hopelessness being witnessed in Kenya especially among many learned youngsters, the majority have now shifted from the 'kazi bora' (good job) phrase to 'bora kazi' (better to have a job).

Today, it no longer matters how learned you consider yourself to be as long as whatever you are doing can place a packet of maize flour on the table in the evening.

However, even at this state of runaway unemployment that leaves many with few or zero options, some members of our society won't do a couple of jobs even if they were offered to them with big allowances.

This is because their religious believes simply forbid them from engaging in such activities. An example of such include the members of the Akorino sect who cannot do the following jobs:

1. Modelling

Members of the Akorino sect especially women cannot work as career models. This is because modelling comes with an array of requirements that are unacceptable to Akorino sect teachings.

For instance, women are not supposed to apply make-up or expose their bodies beyond a certain level. Make-up is perceived as 'devilish' while exposing one's skin beyond the recommended level is considered 'sinful'.

2. A career in swimming/diving

As you are aware, swimmers and divers have their own type of attires which they wear before getting into the water. These swimming costumes that are equivalent of the usual underwears are unacceptable for public appearance among the Akorinos. The turban that they don on their heads is also a major deterrent.

3. Mortician

Akorinos are not allowed to handle dead bodies which are considered to be 'unpure'. When they handle lifeless bodies for one reason or another, they must undergo a cleansing ritual before they can be allowed to interact and worship with other members of the sect. It, therefore, goes without saying that working in a morgue is a no for a 'mukurino'.

4. Pig farming

Just like Muslims, the Akorino are forbidden from engaging in anything that has to do with pigs. Akorino in their religion considers pigs as 'cursed' animals which should not be reared or even eaten by any of their members.
