Chief Justice David Maraga has joined the ongoing debate on corruption, which has also seen President Uhuru Kenyatta often blame the judiciary for allegedly being lenient on suspects.
At Egerton University on Saturday, Maraga lamented that corruption had sabotaged service delivery, adding that the vice subjects poor people to pain.
“Poor patients are even asked to give money in the hospital to get a blood transfusion for Sh2,000 and this is unacceptable,” said Mr Maraga.
But the CJ warned graft lords that the curse from God would always affect their children, adding that most of the known cartels have children who have totally immersed themselves to drug abuse and misuse.
He said lords of corruption who have amassed billions of shillings are not enjoying their loot.
“They are not getting sleep and their children are the worst drug addicts, I know several,” he said as reported by Daily Nation.
Maraga, who took over from Willy Mutunga in September 2016, said the least expected in his life to someday head the judiciary, adding that God's plans cannot be stopped by human beings.
He revealed that he never thought one day he would be a CJ.
“Even in my wildest dreams I never thought one day I will occupy the most powerful position in the Judiciary. God is great for what he has done to me.”
On Thursday at Supreme Court buildings during the launch of State of Judiciary and Administration of Justice report, Maraga said judiciary will "rule in favour of executive if it has a good case and against it, if the case is bad."
