Two youthful politicians had a difficult day on Friday after suspected hired goons kicked them out of the main dais at Miriri in Gachuba during the burial of a top Nyamira County Assembly official.
Kitutu Masaba MP aspirants Hillary Abuya and his colleague Vincent Omao were ruthlessly evicted when they tried to address the gathering during the burial of Enock Omwenga, a county official who perished in a road accident along Kisii-Kiricho three weeks ago.
Trouble started when Mr Abuya, a youthful aspirant moved to the front ready to address the funeral. The goons, who are associated with area MP Shadrack Mose, pushed him to the tent as he struggled to gain his ground.
A distance from where he was manhandled, Omao was also forced out by Mr Mose, who was standing just next to MC. Omao tried to resist but he was eventually subdued by the hired goons.
"The MP should not be a coward. It's surprising that he fears facing his opponents. The primitive act from his goons cannot intimidate me at all. I'll continue moving across Kitutu Masaba and advocate for change," Abuya vowed.
Mr Omao, a former Kemera ward aspirant and a renowned activist, insisted that Mr Mose will not manage to humiliate his opponents in future. He accused him of using force to govern the constituency.
"He doesn't want us to speak about misappropriation of NG-CDF. He has failed to show leadership. Let him be ready for a bruising battle in future. We are ready and united to bring him down," he said.
In his speech, Mr Mose restricted himself to addressing mourners and the bereaved family. He asked constituents to give him time so that he can deliver his promises.
The video of embarrassing moments at the village in Gachuba has caused mixer reaction with a section of locals accusing MP of intimidating opponents.
