Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho hosted President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga alongside other leaders for the ground-breaking ceremony for the development of Mama Ngina Drive Waterfront Project.
"This is a historic project that will transform the grounds and create employment," said Joho d urged those who have grabbed part of the grounds to surrender the title deeds before they are compelled to do so.
"We expect the contractor to finish the work within the stipulated time of six months," he added, saying: "I have once again pledged my support for the handshake for the sake of peace and development."
Further on Monday, Joho hosted Kenyatta, Raila amongst other leaders at the Governor’s office.
"I am keen on the new changes at Mama Ngina drive. In conjunction with the national government, we intend to make Mombasa a major tourist destination."
From the benefits brought by the stability of the handshake, Joho said Kenya has seen an unprecedented number of tourist arrivals for the year 2018.
"May the country continue to benefit from the renewed political understanding."
