The four-year term for the former Inspector General of Police Joseph Kipchirchir Boinnet came to an end on 11th  Monday, March 2019.

All the attention turned to President Uhuru Kenyatta on who he will appoint to replace Boinnet.

The immediate former IG was appointed to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife as the Chief Administrative Secretary.

Many were surprised on Wednesday when the President in an executive order nominated Hillary Nzioki Mutyambai to be the successor of IG Boinnet.

Mr Hillary Mutyambai has served in the police service since 1991 where he started as a junior officer in the then Kenya Police Force and rose ranks to the level of Superintendent of Police according to Citizen.

He then moved to the Directorate of Security Intelligence in 1998 where he continued to rise ranks till he became the Deputy Director in Charge of Counter-Terrorism in the National Intelligence Service, a position he held till this appointment.

Mr Hillary held his undergraduate studies at the University of Nairobi and a post-graduate Masters of Arts in National Security Policy from the Australian National University.

In addition, he has undergone special training on counter-terrorism and advanced security, operational management and policing, intelligence and counter-terrorism in the united states, United Kingdom and Israel respectively.

The National Assembly Security committee is expected to vet him and if the parliament approves, he will then be fully appointed the new Inspector General.
