Former presidential candidate Prof James Ole Kiyiapi has explained why President Uhuru Kenyatta steered clear off politics at Rivatex on Friday.
While speakers like Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Audi couldn't resist the urge to dabble in some politics, the president stuck to the official script.
According to the former presidential candidate, the president was guided by the handshake.
"Believe it or not, HANDSHAKE has FUNDAMENTALLY changed the political landscape in the country. I observed every move, undertones and vibes at Launch of Rivatex ultra modern Textile Mill - the President stuck to the official script and took off shortly after the event. Siasa, hapana!" Prof Kiyiapi's Friday tweet read.
President Uhuru shook hands with his erstwhile political adversary veteran opposition and ODM leader Raila Odinga last year, bringing to an end their hostilities.
The president has been a strong proponent of the handshake and has vowed to protect it at all costs.
At the launch of the Rivatex ultra modern textile mill, the president reiterated his administration's commitment to economic development.
Last Sunday, he criticised Central Kenya legislators moving around the country engaging in politics at the expense of working for those who elected them to office.
Since the handshake, he has been silent on who he'll support for the presidency in 2022.
