Fresh details confirm that Migori senatorial hopeful Eddy Oketch is indeed enjoying the backing of Deputy President William Ruto despite his denials.
According to the Sunday Nation, Ruto reportedly met a group of local leaders during his recent tour of Kuria, where the decision to support the youthful leader was reached.
Oketch has, however, rubbished such claims which have also been raised by his opponent's team, terming them as baseless propaganda aimed at diverting the public attention.
He has further disassociated himself with the Deputy President, as well rubbishing allegations that Ruto was behind his campaigns, specifically his campaign chopper.
"The claims that I am being fronted by other people are outrageous and meant to divert attention from the real issues in the campaign," he was quoted on Wednesday.
"That is political propaganda and the public knows that last year I mounted a bigger campaign in which I also used a chopper,” he was further quoted.
Speaking in the course of the campaigns, a section of leaders allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party repeatedly accused Oketch of being a political project.
Led by Suna East lawmaker Junet Mohammed, the leaders who are in support of Ochilo Ayacko have as well linked the Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) candidate to area Governor Okoth Obado.
