Despite his perceived toughness in executing of his duties, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i is soft when undertaking his duties contrary to interpretations of many, one of his associate has said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Matiang'i as the chairman of powerful National Development and Communication Cabinet Committee, a move that makes him overall cabinet minister in Uhuru's government.
And Brian Mamboleo, the Jubilee Secretary General in Nyamira, says the career civil servant is soft based on how he handles people despite tough protocol around him.
"He's an easy going minister. Whenever people want to share with him, he asks security officers to let them access him. He doesn't like that habit of people being pushed around by his aides.
"In fact, if one dares do so, he's be in for trouble. At church, he takes strategic seats like any ordinary person and doesn't walk with guards. He even leads church choirs in songs," he said.
At Kisii on Wednesday, Matiang'i was seen surrounded by youths with security officers watching from a distance. He would be seen mingling with them and even keeping security chiefs at bay.
While addressing residents of Kisii, Matiang'i said he's ready to execute his roles, adding that nobody will be spared if he or she fails to adhere to government regulations.
"I have rolled my sleeves and work must be done your Excellency. We shall deliver. The responsibility you've bestowed upon me are quite enormous but we shall deliver."
