The County government of Uasin Gishu on Thursday issued bursary cheques worth Sh95 million that seeks to benefit needy but bright students.
Speaking while presiding over the exercise at the headquarters in Eldoret town, governor Jackson Mandago said over 13,450 students from across the 30 wards in the county will benefit from the kitty.
“My government is poised to ensure bright and needy students continue with their studies and we will continue supporting them,” said Mandago.
Under the bursary fund, every ward has been allocated Sh3 million.
The County boss further advised ward bursary committee against giving a small amount of money to needy students.
He said it would be better a few students benefit but they be able to complete the studies.
“How can you give Sh10,000 to a needy student who has been admitted to a National school and needs more than Sh80, 000? Such students should be given the whole amount for them to pursue their education,” noted Mandago.
He further called on those who have benefited from the county sponsorship and have now been employed to repay the loans so that other needy students could benefit.
