Former Balambala MP Abdikadir Aden has challenged governors to find ways of generating their own revenue.
The former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP says that governors should not depend on the national government for revenue.
According to Aden, there are many ways through which county bosses can generate wealth and revenue without depending on the national government.
He argues that counties have a lot of untapped resources that they can use to create revenue for their people.
"Governors should challenge themselves on revenue generation. They should not always ask for money from the national government,” he tweeted on Friday.
The East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP also asked governors to prudently utilise the resources allocated to them.
He claimed that corruption and misuse of public money is rampant in counties.
The former lawmaker who spoke in relation to the 6th Devolution conference held in Kirinyaga County added, “Corruption and inefficiency is a reality which cannot be ignored in devolved governance,”.
Governors are pushing for increased funding from the national government.
The county bosses want their funding increased from the current 15 percent to 45 percent.
Last week Garissa Township MP Aden Duale proposed for a 75 percent funding to devolved county governments.
