On January 10, 2008, there was joy in Ukambani after Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was named Kenya’s Vice President, a post many powerful politicians have died dreaming about.

Kalonzo went into the books of history as the first Kamba to hold this position.

The then Mwingi North MP-elect took the position at a time when the nation had witnessed election violence and destruction of property.

While taking over the post, Kalonzo said he was ready to talk to different leaders for the sake of the country's unity.

He succeeded former Vice President Moody Awori.

Kalonzo had earlier said he was not interested in the office but later changed his mind.

“I am not interested in high office because I have no business being VP when there is no country in the first place. You can count on my full support to do whatever it takes to stabilize the country,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo's appointment as a Vice President changed several things in the country.

His move shifted the political gears in the country after the disputed general election.

Kalonzo's efforts to serve in the same capacity in the 2017's polls did not bore fruits since his attempts together with NASA leader Raila Odinga to take over power went futile.
